Memories

Ah, the joy of a carefree day on the beach! Can't you imagine the story that went with this castle I found? With pail and shovel in hand someone crossed the grassy dunes. They trudged through the hot dry sand feeling their shoes fill up with the tiny grains. They freed their toes and ran, squealing with delight, to the cooler damp sand to stake their claim and start digging their very own castle. Where else could they be king and make all the choices? Slathered in sunscreen, they dug and sculpted and shaped for hours, telling stories, laughing, taking an occasional dip in the ocean to cool off. At last, they got hungry, so they declared their castle complete. They packed up and left it for other travelers to enjoy. They left, knowing that their day's work wouldn't last through the dark night. When I saw their craftsmanship, with the sunset casting long shadows, I knew I would have to save it somehow, so I took a picture. But they will never know that the memory of their work lives on.

I enjoy sandcastles and all, but as you very well know, I take great delight in the destruction of these creations. For some strange reason, I feel the need to apologize for that incident long ago. Do forgive...
